TravMed is an app that help traveller to easily pay their medical expenses and extra expenses affected by sickness during travelling. The traveller need to buy the insurance before the start of their trip. Afterward, they can use the feature of the app.

The content of the app is divided into 5 main categories. They are buying insurance, find the selected clinic, payment by the mobile app, payment record and important information.

Users only need a very easy procedure to pay for the medical fee and other expenses affected by the sickness. The travel insurance will check directly from the service provider for the payment. User do not need to prove again for their claims.

Week 9 : Concept

Concept 3

Instant medical insurance:

Motivation:

  1. Travellers will not go to see doctor because they are afraid of and worried about the high medical fee overseas. Therefore, they will only buy the medicine in locals or just wait until improvement.
  2. Travellers think that claiming the money from the travel medical insurance is difficult as they have to provide so many receipt and reference to proof they are really sick. If the amount of money is not that much, they will not go to see doctor if their body conditions are not really that bad.
  3. Travellers do the trust the local medical quality when they are travelling.

Feature:

  1. A medical insurance card that is installed to the mobile phone.
  2. Traveller can go to the selected clinics or hospitals where are approved by the insurance company in terms of quality.
  3. Traveller can use the mobile app to pay for the medical fee. The insurance company will check directly from the bill, so the traveller can go to see doctor without any doubt about money. Their sickness can be heal faster.
  4. In terms of the place is difficult to connect to network, the company will issue a medical credit card for the payment if the customer order a medical insurance a month ago. The company can also check the record directly from the service provider.

Value

  1. Reduce the anxiety of the travellers
    Travellers don’t have to consider much after sickness but directly go to see doctor if they are sick. They can be heal properly.
  2. No need to claim money.
    The app help the traveller pay directly to the service provider. If the travellers are really sick, they do not have to send the receipt back to the insurance company after the trip end as every thing can be done during the trip.
  3. Resume their trip as long as they are approved as sick
    The app not only can pay for medical service, it can also cover the extra cost brought by the sickness. For example, traveller can use the card to buy back the same value of concert ticket that they cannot see during their sick period.

Week 9 : Concept

After drawing the user journey, and review the questions inside, I have 2 initial concepts.

A medicine image generator

Motivation

Traveler seldom prepare to get sick during traveling. They will not search for where they can buy medicine before the trip. Besides, the name of the sickness always difficult to tell in a foreign language, travellers often have problems when they wanted to buy medicine overseas.

Features

  1. User Enter their basic information, like how old, where they are, their symptoms for sickness.
  2. Place a finger on the app to test what is their body temperature ,pulse and blood pressure.
  3. According to the result, The app will generate the information of medicine needed in IMAGE for the traveler.
  4. Afterward, the app will give a direction for the client to buy the medicine

Value

The app can help the user skip the communication problem when they want to buy the medicine. Users can show the image of the medicine when they want to ask the locals and buy the medicine in the drug store. They can have a easier way to buy some medicine that they trust.

Review: There are similar products on the market, the idea is not new, the opportunity is to bring the information into a easier way for traveller to read.

Motivation

No one want to be sick during travelling since it will ruin your planned journey. You may lost the flight, wasted the football ticket or diving course etc. The meaning of the trip will lost totally. In order to distract them, the app is made.

Features

  1. Share a photo of what you lost caused by the trip during travelling.
  2. Hashtag #MyTripIsRuined. To tell the insurance company the trip is ruined
  3. The company will help them to rearrange the trip to end in a better way.

Value

Travellers will become very sad when they are sick during the trip. What they can do is lying on bed and take more rest. The app help them to plan what they should do afterward.

Review: The situation about ruined trip cannot be changed. How can make them happier? distract them? give them another opportunity?

Week 8: User Journey and Use case diagram

This week learning focused on how to improve the user journey and what is a use case diagram.

During the lesson, we need to make a journey for a customer who visit a coffee shop. We have to think as much questions as we can for the customers when they visit a coffee shop. More importantly, we have to think on the shop owner side on how he can solve the problem brought by the customer. This in-class exercise help me to think deeper on the shop owner side. This benefit me on how to improve my user journey.

Week 8 : storyboard and User Journey

The storyboard is based on the role play of scenario 1. it shows the traveling plan of diving is ruined by the sudden illness of the traveler.The traveler has ate some wrong food resulting in vomit. She take the medicine she brought with her for the trip. However the illness does not improve. She then seek help from the hotel service and then she is suggested to have a body check in the hospital.  She have to spend time in hospital during the trip. Not only she cannot enjoy the trip, she has to pay for the hospital fee. She is very sad, frustrated and helpless.

A man visiting Italy and going to see a football match at night. He sightseeing a lot during daytime, but maybe he is too tired for the trip, he caught a cold and fever. He wants to heal the sickness as soon as possible so that he can watch the football match. He asks a local about how to find medicine. However, due to communication problem, the answers from the local is difficult to understand. Therefore, he just walk  and ask again. Finally, he finds a clinic and go inside although this is not his original plan. The doctor asks him to take more rest and take medicine on time. Besides, the fee for see a doctor cost a lot for his trip expenditure. He is now worrying about how to spend the money in the coming trip. Besides, he feels very tired after taking the medicine. However, if he skip this match, he will not have time to stay in the city to wait for another match. He is struggling what he should do.

The 40+ couple,Yuki and Sam, a beginner of mobile phone without knowledge about Japanese language, visited Tokyo for 5days. Nothing really special happen during the trip. However, when they are going to airport in the last day, the wife suddenly feel the stomach painful. She cannot walk anymore. She has to rest on a bench. A local comes and ask for if the couple needs any help. Knowing the situation, the local guided them to a medical store for medicine. After the wife takes medicine, she still needs some rest. Sam wait for Yuki’s recovery, but he knows it takes time. An hour past, Yuki feels better, and they go to airport though they know the flight is already gone. They cannot speak Japanese, and with very limited English, they buy a very expensive flight ticket back to Hong Kong.

This is the journey when a traveller is sick. The journey is developed based on the storyboard above. The three situation is about how the travelers get sick, the way how the find the method to heal the sickness, and they have lost money, time and mood after they are sick.

Week7: 2nd Role Play

This role play is to observe the decision and emotion after they are sick. The traveller was put into an contradiction situation as he need to go to watch a football match while he is very sick that he need a lot of rest.

during the role play, the traveller seems have no choice but to see doctor after he is sick. therefore, the football ticket become useless. this inspire me of something like online exchange tickets, sell the ticket to others, report to the insurance company for claims. Therefore, traveller can have some money back even he cannot watch the football match after he is sick and need rest.

Reflection for the last 6 week

First to recap what have been done through during the pass 6-7 week, the design process is well structured, that I can start my project step by step and have a clearer goal time by time. The subject first start from a general situation, travel with a situation.

During the learning process in the studio, we have to define the situation, find out which is more appropriate to develop and work on. After define the situation, we have to draft the questionnaire based on the situation we define. Then have a pilot interview with a person who have faced that kind of situation before in order to see if the question is set in a right and a smooth way. A more detailed interview with interviewee is conducted in order to find out more information about how traveller will overcome the situation.

Afterwards, we evaluate the finding and answer from each interview conducted by group mates to find out the similarity to form cluster. And from the cluster to conclude the dimension and then matrix and finally comes to vision statement. Since then, scenario is written based on the type of traveller I choose to work on in the vision statement. Role play is acted for to know how they will react under that situation.

The above is the basic recap of the learning and study process. The below I will share my view and feeling towards each of them respectively.

1. Defining situation

I have to think what is possible and valuable to work on. I think this part is essential. In this stage, choosing the right topic is so important for future development. We should choose a topic that is interesting and have various aspect to develop.

2. Drafting question list and Starting pilot interview > Review interview questions

Interviewing a person is not easy. i not only have to asking her a question, also need to see what is her facial expression in order not to ask so suddenly and make the interviewee embarrassed. The pilot interview help me to understand what is the problem of the questionnaire, like the order of the questions. I noticed that it need to take more relaxingly before really start to ask her the questions. In this way, she was warm up and can answer more. The skills of the asking question is also important. I found that avoid asking YES/NO question is really important. YES/NO question required the interviewees to answer YES/NO only. this is difficult for them to evaluate more.

3. Iterating interview  > Clustering interview data

After getting the answer from the interview, we have to summarize our findings. Therefore, we first list out what we find in our interview and then share with group mate and find similarity. At first, It is not that easy as I am not so sure about what is the meaning of cluster. I just work on step by step. The interview result from others is quite interesting as it is different but have similarity.

4. Structuring context > Dimensions > matrix >Define statement design title

All the previous preparation is prepared for this part. It maybe the biggest challenge in this stage among all the exercises throughout the course to me. From the cluster, we have to form dimensions. I think it is very easy to get lost. Matrix affect the future development of the app.  There are 2 things that I feel frustrating.

To starts with the naming issue. It is very difficult to give a relevant name for the group of people. For example in my case, is calm and casual traveller a smart traveller? Isnt calm and planned traveller smart? both of them can be smart. I struggled in how to define that kind of traveller a lot.

Secondly, the dimension that I choose to work on. When I am working on the matrix, I found some time the 2 dimension point 2 different side will have some contradiction when it form a quarter. For example, I tried to use the dimension :dependent and independent as the behavior towards sickness and planned and casual as the attitude for the trip. After I have started, I found it is not possible for using these 2 dimensions as some of the cluster contradict towards each other.   For the dependent and planned traveller,  dependent’s cluster include rely on others. But they are well planned people, why they need to rely on others???

5. Making statement > Vision Statement 

Vision Statement have to include the product, how to help the target group, what information provided to the target group, and a long term goal.

Defining the long term goal is the most difficult one to me. What is a long term goal for a traveller have sick problem during travel ? He or she is sick and heal the sickness may be the most important thing. What should be the app vision ?

After the tutorial, the problem I doubt with have a better understanding. The vision for the target user can be improved to be a better person.

6. Building scenarios > Role play

To Act out the scenario by role play really need the actors action. It is difficult to control the result. After
